Flying is not everyone's cup of tea. Personally, I'm not a fan either, and Jannik prefers to keep both feet on the ground, but if you want to travel far, you have to pull yourself together.
If everything goes as planned, it's not a big deal. But this time, apparently, we had some technical problems, which is why the plane couldn't take off from Zanzibar. The slightly irritated flight attendants asked us, after calming us down with breakfast first, to leave the plane again. They told us that there were technical problems and that it would be difficult to find a competent technician on Zanzibar who could take care of them.
So we were back in the waiting area, watching a few confused-looking men inspecting the engines. They stared at them for hours on end. After about two hours, we were invited back into the plane. We were admittedly a little concerned after observing the whole thing. After all, the men had done nothing else but stare at the engines for a while without repairing or taking any other action. But well, we had to find a way off the island somehow. And since we didn't really know if the engines were the problem, we accepted the situation.
And so we finally boarded the plane. We had already missed the connecting flight. Tough luck.
Fortunately, I slept through the flight, because Jannik still tells me to this day that it was the worst flight we had ever experienced. People were screaming and the turbulence seemed quite intense. Well, I can't really comment on that this time. I have no idea how someone can sleep through such a drama, but everyone has their talents, as they say. I'm just glad that Jannik still gets on airplanes.
And then, after about three hours of flying, we found ourselves somewhere at the airport in Muscat. Up until that point, I still had hope that we would immediately catch another flight. But when we were told that we would now be taken to a hotel, I was pretty pissed off at first. I thought we would be taken to a dingy airport hotel. We couldn't get our hands on our luggage either. It's actually not a big deal, but unfortunately, when I'm stressed, I tend to be a drama queen. I can only say it again and again - poor Jannik.
While I was sulking and hating the world, he organized a flight to Frankfurt, which was scheduled to depart the next morning. After that, I was appeased again.
If I had known at that time that we would not be taken to a dingy airport hotel, but to a damn beautiful Best Western hotel, I probably wouldn't have behaved like that from the beginning. Well, you learn from your mistakes. In the future, I will probably take such things more calmly.
Anyway, the hotel was beautiful and the food was delicious! We were well taken care of (a big shout-out to the travel organizer).
We didn't see much of Muscat, of course. But what we did see looked luxurious - especially the cars driving around there.
The next morning, unlike many others, we were allowed to board the plane again.
In the end, this extra night was almost like a gift that we somehow ended up appreciating.
And the moral of the story is:
Stay calm and make the best out of the situation! What doesn't go smoothly will at least become a story later on! 😊
