Our next stop was La Fortuna and we stayed at the 'Xilo Palo' hotel, which was great. Here, we could have breakfast every morning outside on a beautiful terrace and watch birds, sloths, and squirrels, as a bunch of bananas was hung up every morning to attract all sorts of animals. Here, we could observe and photograph various toucans and a wide variety of birds...
We saw the Arenal Volcano exactly twice. Once when we arrived in the city briefly, but when we were at the accommodation, it was already shrouded in mist and clouds, and once in the evening in this beautiful pink light. Otherwise, it rained a lot, and we always had to find a weather window to do something. The weather reports are completely unreliable in this region, and you just go out on a whim...
The Arenal Volcano is the most active and youngest volcano in Costa Rica. The last eruptions and explosions occurred in 2010. Since then, there have been no more eruptions.
