Saturday. The first full vacation day. Everyone can do as they please with us. That of course also applies here. That's why I (Petra)set my alarm clock for 5 o'clock to go for a run. I graciously let Mario sleep. I used to sometimes call on Sunday mornings at half past six, "Darling, take care of me!" didn't go down well ... so I refrain from that, you learn how to maintain family harmony.
So, as I said, wake up at 5 o'clock and off to see the sunrise. This time of day is so wonderful because you feel like you have the whole world to yourself.
What's interesting is that I had already looked at the route on my phone before, to find some circular routes around the vacation rental. It all looked different in two dimensions. I, the geographical genius, had not considered that the Bavarian Forest is a low mountain range and you can't just run around the block. But even if it was more strenuous than at home, I went running, saw the sunrise, enclosed game, wild game and found out where to get rolls for breakfast.
So Mario was only woken up at half past seven, after all he should recover. Mario planned today's bike tour. After a small breakfast, we started. We rode 15km with the Knecht to the start of the tour. We wanted to make full use of the wonderful summer weather today, as the forecasts for the coming days are not so exciting. We rode 65 km with plenty of altitude meters through the national park and are excited about the great route, the forest, the landscape. Petra's definition of the ideal bike path: forest, mountains, rocks in the forest, no people and water. The brooks gurgle wonderfully right next to our path. Mostly in the opposite direction ... you know what that means: uphill for us. But it works, we still have a little help on board. Speaking of help - we always feel a little strange when we pass the cyclists without e-bikes uphill. On the other hand, the road cyclists are significantly faster on the flat and downhill and ultimately everyone rides what they want.
The lunch break took place in a small garden restaurant, which in turn fulfilled Mario's definition of a good restaurant: if you order a breaded schnitzel, you should hear pounding noises from the kitchen, then you know that the cook is not processing finished breaded frozen food, but cooks fresh. We had made it halfway through the route by now. The last part of the route led through the forest again after a sunny section and Petra discovered blueberries right by the roadside. Have you ever picked blueberries by hand, people? A pretty laborious task. The berries were very tasty and even though there were few of them, it was enough to stain our fingers nicely.
And of course, we ended with the traditional spaghetti ice cream, one that deserves at least 9 out of 10 points (minus one point because it could have been twice as big).
We are enjoying the evening on our terrace with a little barbecue with our new mini grill for on the go. Well, now that we're done grilling, the predicted rain has set in.
