Yorkshire Dales - Malham and Grassington

That morning we got to know the pitfalls of the small English roads in the Yorkshire Dales. We actually wanted to go to Malham, but Google kept sending us down roads that were too narrow for the width of our motorhome.

Finally, we took a wide detour and arrived at our destination much later than expected.

We parked at the visitor center, where we were still early enough to get one of the parking spaces. During peak season, all parking spaces fill up quickly.

Various hiking trails start from here, which can either be walked individually there and back or combined into a loop.

We first hiked to “Malham Cove”, a natural limestone formation with an 80 meter high wall that is 300 meters wide.

From there, a steep climb up stairs led to a plateau, from where the path continued over stones.

We continued through sheep meadows with beautiful views until we reached a waterfall.

The path led back to Malham along the watercourse.

At the visitor center we asked how we could get to Grassington via the largest possible roads.

The small town appears as “Darrowby” in the remake of the series “All Creatures Great and Small”.

We took a short tour with the “Adventure Lab” app, where you have to solve small puzzles along the way.

To finish off, there was a huge milkshake at the market square.

We drove to a pub near Ripon to spend the night. The journey took an unexpectedly long time because our route took us right past the race track, where a horse race had apparently just finished. In any case, we were stuck in a traffic jam for a while because the traffic came to a standstill with the cars driving out of the car park. But we finally arrived at the pub with a beautiful view of the surrounding fields.
