We started driving in Nelson around 10 am this morning. The nice young lady at the reception recommended Westport. We had considered driving along the east coast first. There you can watch whales - if you're lucky. To do that, you have to be on a relatively small boat on the sea for two hours. Now, I'm not really good at sea. So we followed the recommendation and drove through a very diverse landscape. The road is too. Luckily, very short sections are single lane only. Like a country road! Everything went well, the car has no scratches. For most of the way, we drove along a mountain river that had very little water, even though it doesn't look like it in the photo.
Westport: we were disappointed after Nelson. It's just a typical New Zealand town with little charm. Nelson was much more attractive. I don't have a photo of it!
Now we are back in a TOP 10 Holiday Park right by the sea. The photos of the sea and the beach show that there is a lot going on, many tourists are flocking to the beach. It's the weekend after all.
The cabin, or whatever you call it, is as always very clean, simple but perfectly equipped (see photos).
We will continue tomorrow. The Pancake Rocks are not far away. They are called so because it looks like a stack of pancakes. We will decide spontaneously how far we will drive south on the coastal road.
