The Ferry
Long before departure time, I make my way to the check-in of GNV ferries. Although my GPS has the correct address, it has no chance against the numerous construction site diversions; it is hot and laborious as I slowly but steadily approach the ferry port along the huge shipyards and container area; I don't care about the one-way streets and oncoming traffic - Italy is different! Actually, to my advantage, I need a lot of time for the few kilometers, because it significantly shortens the waiting time on the completely shadeless pier. I ask a fellow motorcyclist to keep an eye on my bike and manage to get 3 small bottles of Morretti in a nearby minibar (originally intended for the port workers). I drink one on the way back, one is a thank you for watching out, and the third one won't go warm either. The steel colossus called Majestic cautiously slides up to the pier, even ahead of schedule.
