Tag 46 - Marlborough Sounds

In Takaka, Leila, Valerie and I quickly dismantled our tents as the weather was getting worse. I drove a part of the way with Leila because she is taking the ferry a day after me. We met Leila in the evening at the campfire, she camped right next to us.

During the drive towards the Marlborough Sounds, we took a break at the source of the Riwaka River. The water flows into a large hole through countless caves, which feeds the river with water. To my astonishment, the water literally comes out of the ground there!

The weather was good and we stopped in Motueka and visited the wreck in the bay, which I had already seen on the Great Taste Trail.

In the evening, we found an affordable DOC campsite in the arm of a bay in the middle of the Marlborough Sounds.
