Key West - The End of the Rainbow (or not)

Ku kandziyisiwile: 19.07.2016

6:30 am. The alarm clock rings. And it's not so easy to get out of bed.

After we finally managed to do it, we immediately set off after breakfast to drive to the southernmost point in the USA.

After a 3.5-hour drive and a slightly longer search for parking, we explored the city, but then realized that the expected white dream beaches were not to be found there. Instead, you can only find many bars with very cheap alcohol, which we could not take advantage of because of the car.

As a highlight of the trip, besides the Mile Marker 0 (origin of Highway #1),

the Southernmost Point, and therefore the southernmost accessible point in the USA. The real southernmost point is a few hundred meters further into the area of a military base.

After about 20 minutes of waiting in line, we were finally able to take a standard photo with the Pseudo Southernmost Point Poller.

Key West's only small beach is unfortunately full of algae and not very spectacular, and besides a few nice trees, we couldn't find anything extraordinary on the world-famous island.

For a total of 7 hours of driving, it didn't seem quite worth it to us, but maybe we missed something.

However, it is partially a scenic route, especially because the Americans don't demolish the old bridges when they build a new one, so on the way back we were able to take some great photos just after the seven-mile bridge.

As the end of the day, we treated ourselves to a nice 2.5 kilo Angus beef filet with pepper crust and rice :)
