Heading south

Before heading south, we took a day to explore north of Bangkok. The trip took us to old Bangkok or the ancient capital, Ayutthaya. There we had the chance to admire the ancient ruins built by one of the thousands of kings. You can explore these ruins by taking a tour. Don't be surprised, the buildings are only 200 to 300 years old. Still very beautiful to see.

We also visited a more modern temple complex, but the main attractions were under construction.

We spent the last night in Bangkok quite calmly, enjoying a drink in our suite.

Well rested and refreshed, we made our way to the train station to travel south by night train. On the way, we made a detour to a shopping mall. Let me tell you: it's unbelievably huge! You need a map for each floor.

The night train is an experience. Anyone planning such a journey should take the night train. It would have been more luxurious by bus, but also more expensive. Take a look at my tiny 1 square meter. The rattling and clanking of the old carriages adds extra nostalgia. The beautifully designed stainless steel bathroom has everything a man needs!;)

Now we have arrived in Khao Sok. Our accommodation promises the first taste of tropical southern vacation!
