Sunrise Mount Batur

This morning we were picked up at 2:00 am and drove to Mount Batur. Our guide was already waiting for us. After receiving a bottle of water and a flashlight from him, we started the hike up the volcano in the pitch dark. We were supposed to climb 1717 meters in 1.5 hours, so I already thought it would be steep at times. And it was. First, we walked a short distance through a farm and then the climb with scree started. It was really steep at times and we slipped on the small lava stones from time to time. We could only see the path and the rocks we should step on with the help of the small points of the flashlight. The ascent was very exhausting, but still fun, and when we reached the top, we were glad to sit down. It quickly became relatively cold, but it took another hour for the sun to finally rise. During the wait, our guide gave us a small breakfast consisting of a banana sandwich, an egg (cooked in the hot spring), fruit, and a chocolate bar. We also had a hot drink. Finally, at 6:18 am, the sun rose. Unfortunately, there was a constant interplay between clouds and sun, but it was definitely an experience! We went down the same way and were amazed at how it looked in the daylight and how we could have rolled down on the sides. :D
