Good morning!
Slept well, but above all super relaxed! From yesterday's emergency, a beautiful day and a lovely evening with a good place to sleep emerged! Breakfast is ready for us at the bottom of the stairs and we can make our own coffee in the room. Everything feels easy... After we've packed and paid, we go into the village. We chat a bit with the landlords of the room (the story with the wrong boat is still funny) and then we set off. We've decided to first walk east, where there is a beach cafe, and then cross the island towards the ferry.
We are almost at the end of the village when we meet a lady who is renovating her garden. Alda says something nice to her and soon we start talking. She thinks our cart is great and asks if she can take a picture of it for her son who lives in Germany and is very sporty. We also hear the story about her daughter in Norway, and we tell our story and continue on our way...
When we arrive at the beach cafe, we first take a look at the sea before we have a coffee on the terrace. It's really a beautiful cafe with 'Bier & Co.' as well-known suppliers... The swallow parents are also interesting, they are feeding their children right above our heads! Taking a photo is not easy, they are incredibly fast!
After the coffee, we walk on a beautiful path straight across the island towards the ferry. We arrive here in plenty of time to board easily. It's very crowded because the holidays have started.
The crossing is quick and we even catch an earlier bus to Dokkum, where we get off and walk the last 9 kilometers to Holwerd. It's very hot but also a beautiful road! Along the way, we meet another lady on a bicycle who saw us when we got off the bus in Dokkum and wondered what on earth we were doing. We tried to explain it to her as well as possible, and we probably did a good job because she got back on her bike satisfied. After 2 hours of walking, we arrive in the village sweaty but happy.
We quickly find the address where we're staying, and when we ring the doorbell, a friendly lady comes to the door and says she doesn't have time at the moment. No problem for us, we're thirsty anyway, and after we've put our luggage in her garage, we go to the local hotel and restaurant where we enjoy a beer. We see that they also have delicious food and decide to immediately reserve a table for the evening. After 2 nice cold Hertog Jan beers, we return to our B&B, where we have a nice chat with the owner for half an hour, and then we rinse off the salt under the shower.
Feeling refreshed, we head back to the restaurant and have a delicious meal! Then, as usual, we blog and go to sleep.
See you tomorrow!
