46. Poros

Ku kandziyisiwile: 25.04.2023

46th. Tag: This morning we take a swim at our 'private beach' before heading towards Poros. The small island, on the Athens-facing side of the Peloponnese thumb, especially its namesake main town, is said to be particularly beautiful. On the way, we stop at a small bakery-café on the road. There we taste various pastries, both sweet and savory. All of them are delicious. Well, it works in Greece too!

Even on the mainland, you can get a good first impression of Poros, as the island is only separated from the mainland by about 300 meters of sea at the ferry station.

We cross over on the ferry for one euro per person. Nuggy has to stay on the mainland. We stroll along the harbor promenade, admiring proud yachts and browsing in nice little shops. Judging by the number of gastronomic establishments, it seems to be quite lively here during the high season.

After a delicious Italian pistachio ice cream, we embark on a small but well-marked exploration path. It first leads us to the clock tower, the landmark of the town, and then to various chapels with wonderful views. Finally, it leaves the town and takes us through beautiful vegetation to the southern end of the harbor road. On this road, we return to the harbor promenade.

Strengthened by a cappuccino, we finally take the water taxi back to the mainland. In the next supermarket, we stock up for tomorrow before heading to the Methana Peninsula.

The drive along the coastal road on the west side of the volcanic peninsula is impressive. However, it is soon clear that in this narrow space between the sea and the slopes of the volcano, there is little room for motorhome parking spaces. After an exciting drive on a small mountain road, we finally find our destination at the entrance to a kind of alpine meadow. Absolute tranquility reigns here. Although we are standing here on the main road around the island, only one car has passed by during our entire stay.
