Walk through Altea

Ku kandziyisiwile: 10.03.2024

Day 43: The sun is shining, there is almost no wind. Today I want to take you on a walk through Altea. The city has 23,000 inhabitants and lies in a bay between Cape Mascarat in the north and Punta de la Bombarda in the south. The mountains of the Sierra de Bernia delimit the city inland.

What makes the city so special? There are many reasons for that. On the one hand, there are the many white houses that stretch from the coast up into the old town and are home to numerous small shops and boutiques. There in the center, on a spacious square, is the church of Nuestra Señora del Consuelo , (thank you, dear Kerstin!), which was built in the 18th century and catches the eye from afar with its deep blue domed roof. Around the square, small and large restaurants vie for the attention of visitors. They compete with the many terraces and small squares that offer beautiful views of the sea or the mountains.

Perhaps it is this mix of sea and mountains that makes Altea so attractive and at the same time so attractive for beauty. Over the past decades, countless artists, musicians and writers have settled here. Villa Gadea is known far beyond the borders of Spain and is recognized by UNESCO as a music school. It is just one pearl in the long chain of this wonderful piece of earth, which does not show off its charms, but invites you to search and rewards you with many unique, loving details.

Yes, once you get to know this city, maybe lose your heart to it a little bit, it acts like a magnet. And it's getting stronger every day. No wonder that the TOTALMENTE OCUPADA sign is emblazoned at the gate to our parking space - fully occupied. And actually always. Places are only available at random and with a lot of luck. Once you're here, you want to stay. We want to continue on Wednesday - although want might not be the right word...
