At 5:15 a.m. the alarm clock went off. Get up, shower, have breakfast. Unfortunately, the breakfast buffet didn't open until 6:30 a.m., but coffee etc. and a few rolls with jam were provided for early departures.
Our taxi driver from yesterday, who had promised me solemnly that he would pick us up promptly at 6.30 a.m. - I can rely on him 100% - obviously didn't come 🙄 Fortunately, the hotel had ordered an endless supply of taxis, so we had to rely on 3 taxis distributed to the airport. A large part of the tour group was already gathered in Hall C at counter 709. We also met our friend Jürgen here. How small the world is🤭 To the lady here from Discovery Airlines, a huge thank you. At first our eTA didn't work. All supposedly not approved. After checking again, first Andi's went, then mine and Jörg... Wrong number🙄 I, blonde, had given an O instead of a ZERO. The nice lady in question then pulled out all the stops to fix the error. She made phone calls to some offices as far as Kanda and got the whole thing through. Really cool. Someone else would have said it wasn't my problem and sent us away. But she did everything in her power with the patience of an angel. With success. It's nice that there are still people like that. After the entire travel group had successfully checked in, the three of us headed straight to the gate. I gave up 3 tubs at the security check, all 3 were pulled out 🙄 Luckily a nice employee caught hold of me and in no time at all we had dealt with any possible problems and I was back in possession of my seven things. Now it was time to wait. What was stupid was that we had the only gate without a smoking lounge 🙈 Which meant that Jörg and Andi fought their way through the security area back into one of the other terminals. Otherwise I think it could have been really tiring😅 Here again, nice MA who guided the two of them everywhere.
There were snow flurries again and again but our flight stayed on time 😊 Boarding started on time, but we arrived on the tarmac almost 2 hours late. No matter 🤷🏼♀️ We were on the plane and the destination was only 11 hours away😅 The flight itself could have been so quiet if it hadn't been for the screamer 4 rows ahead. Nothing against children, it's just that he consistently screamed for hours. Partly in the highest tones🙈🙈🙈 After almost 5 hours I had to flee and found 2 empty seats in the second to last row, behind Jürgen. I quickly grabbed my pillow and enjoyed the peace and quiet for half an hour. A dream. Otherwise there isn't much to report about the flight. After landing in Calgary, everything went straight to pick up our suitcases, get on the bus, go to the hotel, we stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott Calgary Downtown/Beltline District, our suitcases were literally catapulted into the room and our Ubber was ready to take us to the Scotiabank Saddledome bring. We were actually supposed to be in Edmonton with the Oilers today, but unfortunately the time was impossible due to the canceled flight. Our tour guide Stefan organized an acceptable consolation for us with the Flames' home game. Funny, on the way here we discovered that our Ubber customer Christoph had already been there on our last NHL trip. So we'll see each other again 😊 The Calgary Flames vs Toronto Maple Leafs game was actually quite interesting until the third third, but then it got tough. Of course, that could also be because we were all just tired after being on our feet for over 24 hours. That's why we went straight to the hotel after the game. Since around 18,000 people suddenly wanted to go home, it wasn't possible to take Ubber or a taxi. Or waiting times of at least 20 minutes. And standing in the cold at -22°, um no😅 So we went back on foot. The last few meters were very hard in normal jeans and sneakers. Back at the hotel there was the obligatory room inspection and that was it. Over & out.
