The 'Golden Circle' is the most popular tourist route in southern Iceland covering approx. 300 km and offering a variety of nature highlights all around. Although the pictures partly look sunny, winter has arrived in Iceland in mid September! It caught me totally off guard. Today it was 5° C and I was freezing my ass off. In addition there was a very icy wind which made it thoroughly unpleasant to stay outside, even in the sun. Nevertheless I enjoyed some spectacular views. Just as much I was annoyed by all these Chinese tourists who seem to have a totally different sense of keeping a socially appropriate distance to others around them. Well, at least I managed to keep them off my pictures!
Places I visited today:
- Gullfoss, an impressive waterfall
- the geothermal field at a place called Geysir
- the National Park þingvellir which contains the crack of the continental drift, the Lögberg or so-called Law Rock, the beginnings of modern democracy in Europe, a waterfall, Iceland's biggest lake and so forth...
- Kerið, a 55m deep crater
- Urriðafoss, another waterfall
