Rainy day, an invitation to do nothing!

Ku kandziyisiwile: 15.11.2024

Doing nothing is nice too… Absolutely!

Doing nothing is an art in itself and often exactly what we need in between. There is so much pressure to always be active that one can easily forget how restorative and valuable doing nothing can be. Whether it's simply dozing on the couch, taking a walk without a destination, or just looking at the sky – such moments often give us more than anything else. They bring inner calm and clarity and recharge our energy. Sometimes the best thing you can do is just to not do anything at all.

Heavy thunderstorm

Before noon, there was even a heavy thunderstorm. This is the perfect opportunity to truly enjoy doing nothing!

A thunderstorm is an impressive spectacle of nature – wild, powerful, and full of energy. It often starts with a pressuring silence, as if the air becomes heavy and dense. Then dark, piled-up clouds appear in the sky, shifting in deep shades of gray. The world seems bathed in shadow for a moment, and the colors around us become muted.

Suddenly, there’s a flash. A bright, sharp light streaks across the sky followed by a loud crack. The rain had already started earlier. Large, heavy drops thud against the balcony floor. You can hear the patter and drumming of raindrops on the windows. After a while, everything calms down. The rumbling of thunder fades and becomes rarer, the rain subsides, and the dark clouds slowly begin to dissolve. What remains is a feeling of calm and freshness – and even a soft ray of sunshine breaking through the last clouds, like a silent reward after the storm's wild energy.

After the storm, the sun shines

In such weather, the world seems to slow down, and one feels somehow pleasantly isolated. Perfect for a bit of well-deserved idleness!

Shortly after twelve, we drive to Salgados and take a walk through the Lagoa dos Salgados.

Salgados

The Lagoa dos Salgados is a beautiful lagoon and a nature reserve. It is especially popular as a destination for birdwatchers.

Lagoon

The lagoon is a wetland and provides habitat for many different bird species, including flamingos, herons, egrets, spoonbills, and many migratory birds taking a break on their journey through Europe. We also see storks on the opposite golf course.

The combination of fresh and saltwater creates a unique ecosystem that is important for biodiversity and the balance of the region.

Walk through the nature reserve

Conservation organizations are dedicated to preserving and protecting the lagoon. Therefore, it is only accessible via a boardwalk.

However, the walk is short-lived as the rain starts again. We return and make ourselves cozy for the afternoon on the couch.

In good spirits, despite the rain

Towards evening, the sun showed itself once more. We quickly decided to go back to Praia Castelo. It was more than worth it. We experienced another spectacle of nature with one of the most beautiful sunsets.
