From Wanaka, I start early at half past nine on my way to Glenorchy. I don't really feel like traveling today, but I really want to go to Glenorchy. On the way to Queenstown, I discover a new Pak'n'save.
I still need to refuel, so the discount at the Pak'n'save gas station comes in handy. The VW Bus consumes relatively little diesel, giving it a range of just under 1000 km. Really great!
With a full tank and refrigerator, the route leads through Queenstown onto a narrow, steep but stunning road along Lake Watapitu. The route itself is already a dream. But the landscape is truly breathtaking. You can visibly see yourself heading towards 'Middle Earth'. Some scenes from Lord of the Rings were filmed here. I haven't seen the film, but I can understand the fascination just because of the setting.
In Glenorchy, I check in at Mrs. Woolys Campground. A place with a great atmosphere and a bit of retro feeling. It's the first night without electricity and therefore without heating, so it's going to be cold. But there is a hot shower.
