Do 31st May - Adventurous Hike

Ku kandziyisiwile: 07.06.2018

The pictures from Sunday 27th May to Wednesday 30th May are now uploaded. Unfortunately, our suspicion from yesterday has been confirmed: someone else is now enjoying our bathing suits. At the campsite, we took care of the water management and then went back to the nice cafeteria from yesterday. A hot chocolate was a must, but the real reason was the updates on the mobile phone. The internet was great, but we only uploaded the text to the blog (now also the pictures). The pictures would have taken too much time and since we didn't have a power outlet, we had to conserve the laptop battery for the next few days. We upload the photos taken every evening to the laptop and therefore need the battery for this work. Our route led us south, just like yesterday with the train, but this time on the road. Here too, we could enjoy beautiful landscapes, even though it was more of a transfer stage. We also drove past Denali Park without stopping. When we got off the train yesterday, we already saw the many buses and people who are now being shuttled through this park every day even in the off-season. In the summer, there are around 2,600 people with the train alone. So definitely not for us. A little further south in Cantwell, we turned on the left blinker and entered the Denali Highway. 120 miles through a high valley in the middle of the Alaska ranches await us, similar to our Alps, just not as high. After three miles, the pavement ends and "gravel" follows for the next 100 miles. An elk greeted us right at the beginning and apparently, we disturbed a porcupine, it immediately retreated. More elk followed until we found our campsite in the open. After a delicious meal, we went for a hike. According to the description, first along the path to an old bridge and then back along the river. Sounds simple and clear, but it wasn't. Despite our hiking experience and our sense of direction, we finally had to say: borderline. Of course, we found our way back. And the nature was really great. So all in all, a nice finish to the day. And as I write this, the sun is still shining through the window right into my face at 21:03.
