Already at home during the planning of our trip, I noticed this area because of the great photos.
From Granada, we traveled to this area via the Sierra Nevada and put together a nice off-road tour in preparation.
In the Desert of Gorafe, the off-road trails were mostly dusty and gravelly, but there were also very washed out, very steep, curvy sections and ones where there were cliffs on both sides of the trail (long stretches on narrow ridges). These routes cannot be driven without a 4x4. Unfortunately, we had a lot of clouds on part of the tour, which weakened the strong contours of the landscape in the photos. But after a night camping on a large rock outcrop, the weather was clear again the next day. We didn't encounter a single soul on the entire tour. Only in the small villages did life return, and we were able to stock up on the essentials.
The area around Gorafe is also known for the houses and stables built into the cliffs.
