And then Thailand - Chiang Mai

Yayınlanan: 08.05.2019

After ten weeks in Vietnam, we are very enthusiastic about the country. The landscape, the people, the food, the sense of security, everything is perfect. We spent the last days in Vietnam relatively uneventful in Hanoi. It had only dirty weather for us again. We celebrated our wedding anniversary at the (quite pitiful) zoo and with a delicious meal.

We also saw the Lotte Center, the tallest building in Hanoi, without going up because it was so cloudy.
Otherwise, we spent pleasant hours in our favorite cafe 'Eden' and covered miles and miles through even more unfamiliar neighborhoods of the exciting city. Then we flew to Chiang Mai, but first a photoshoot was scheduled, for whatever reason.

In Chiang Mai, there was a kind of emergency due to poor air quality until four weeks ago. The burning in the entire north had caused a very high air pollution this year. That's why we came with mixed feelings. But we wouldn't have noticed if we hadn't read about it. Hardly any respiratory masks to be seen, the air seems clear. Only the heat is very exhausting, 39 degrees is the norm in the afternoons. Fortunately, we have a nice air-conditioned room.
Since we had already been here eight years ago, we could reduce our sightseeing program to the most beautiful temples. And just like back then, we are thrilled by the luxurious gold and the harmonious buildings, some of which are hundreds of years old.

On Sunday, the coronation of the king was celebrated throughout the country, which is why his picture was everywhere.

While monks are seen praying in the image above, below you can see wax figures that look deceptively real and represent important abbots.
Otherwise, Chiang Mai is known for its wide range of beautiful pubs and markets.
And for outdoor activities. We decided to take a day trip to Doi Inthanon National Park, where the highest mountain in Thailand is located.
It can be easily reached by bus, so it didn't demand much of our fitness. A two-hour hike was on the program, with waterfalls, jungle, and flower terraces.

And finally the visit to the royal pagodas. The airforce (!) had first built a pagoda there at an altitude of 2000 m for the king's 60th birthday and 5 years later for the queen's 60th.

A entertaining, if not inspiring day, which we ended with a visit to a pub and a cocktail.
