Perth - Sightseeing in the Surrounding Area

During our stay in Perth, we went on a few excursions in the nearby and faraway areas: to Fremantle, Whiteman Park, and the Pinnacles. Our friend Jens, who lives in Perth, was kind enough to take us there in his car. Many thanks!!!

Fremantle is the port town of Perth, located downstream at the mouth of the Swan River into the ocean. It can be reached by train in about 30 minutes from Perth. There is still port activity here, but Fremantle has an interesting Maritime Museum and a beautiful, well-restored city center. It somehow looks like a Western town. And here is the oldest surviving building from 1830, the Round House. It used to be one of the most notorious prisons back then. The inmates originally built the city as well.

On the way to Whiteman Park, we stopped at a koala enclosure. They are quite funny to look at, these furry creatures, and easy to photograph with a good zoom lens because they hardly move. So they are pretty lazy companions. We spent most of our time at the Auto Museum in Whiteman Park (where else, but the weather was also bad...). There are some interesting exhibits such as cutaway models or custom-made vehicles. In addition, there are incredibly many car models, parts, and also some motorcycles.

The Pinnacles are countless large rocks standing in the sand like columns. You can see them for kilometers to the horizon. A gigantic sight, the pictures speak for themselves. Absolutely worth seeing, although it's a bit far to drive, but nearly 500 km round trip is a day trip in Western Australia.
