On Sunday, we drove north along the coast to Kaikoura. This road is only open on weekends since the earthquake.
The kilometers in New Zealand may seem short, but they take forever. In Kaikoura, we took advantage of the day and the beautiful weather and walked along the sensational coastal landscape. We smelled the seals as always before seeing them.
The next day, we drove to Hanmer Springs. The town is known for its beautiful thermal pools. Taking advantage of the good weather, we went for a walk to the lookout and took our first swim in the pool. We got a re-entry pass, which allowed us to relax in the hot pools again at sunset.
Since our campsite was across from the golf course, we had no choice but to try it out the next day. Enjoying the 18 holes all by ourselves in the hot 27-degree weather was a great experience. In the evening, after our work was done, we traveled 200 kilometers north.
