Hello there ☺️
Today was our accommodation change and we were really excited to see what awaits us now ☺️.
So, we woke up at 7:30 AM, sat on our beautiful balcony one last time, and got ready to leave.
By chance, we found out that Peter & Jenny (the couple we met in Vietnam) are also in Yucatan! We made plans to drive together to Bacalar to see the Lagoon of the Seven Colors.
On the way to meet them, we realized that we were running very late! We couldn't contact them either because we needed to load money onto our Mexican SIM card. When we arrived at their place, we were already 20 minutes late - honestly, so typical of us 😅
But they took it very lightly and were especially grateful for the ride ☺️.
As we started driving, our tank was on reserve, but since we were already late, we decided to go to the meeting point first and then refuel.
Normally, there are gas stations every few meters here, so we didn't worry at all and started driving towards Bacalar (2.5 hours driving time).
There was a long stretch on the highway and our reserve kept getting emptier - no gas station in sight! When the display showed "0 kilometers" and we couldn't see a gas station anywhere, we started getting a little nervous. We pulled over and asked a few Mexicans in a parked car about the nearest gas station: "Ufff, far away - very far... About 30 minutes..."!
We decided to drive as far as we could and then improvise if necessary. Unbelievably, our tank actually lasted for the remaining 30 minutes and we reached the gas pump with complete relief 😁.
Now we could continue the journey in a relaxed manner.
We reached Bacalar at 12 PM and comfortably sat in a restaurant right by the lagoon.
Initially, we found the lagoon pretty, but not as spectacular as it was advertised.
After eating, we took a little drive around and then we saw the beautiful colors! Light blue almost white, dark blue, something in between, and occasionally a green shimmer - truly breathtakingly beautiful!
We couldn't stop to take photos there, but we still have a few more days here 😁
After a quick stop at the OXXO (supermarket), we dropped off Peter and Jenny at their accommodation and headed to ours.
We are really satisfied! A super cute bungalow right by the lagoon. We can also use the kayaks for free and we are far away from civilization (except for 5 other guests in bungalows with us) ☺️.
After exploring our accommodation for the next few days, we grabbed two SUPs and paddled around on the lagoon.
Then it was time to get ready and go to Peter & Jenny's place.
We had dinner plans and we were already super hungry 😅
We found an incredibly cute restaurant and started with a round of tequilas to toast to the vacation tradition. ☺️
Then we had a really delicious meal (not typically Mexican at all) with burgers and pizza, accompanied by cheerful conversations.
We left at 10:30 PM and soon we'll go to sleep again ☺️
We have something really amazing planned for tomorrow, hopefully it works out 😁
You'll find out in the next entry 😉
See you then!
