Jacob August Riis, born in Ribe, was a famous photographer. While he was relatively unknown in Denmark, he gained great fame in New York, as he was the first photographer to capture the slums and their inhabitants. He became friends with President Roosevelt and changed the United States with his photographs.
The museum is located directly in Jacob A. Riis' childhood home, in the picturesque city of Ribe. His photographs tell the story of poverty, disease, and particularly the suffering of children, which is haunting. If you ever visit Ribe, don't miss out on visiting this museum.
