Week 5

Yayınlanan: 20.09.2024

So, the time has finally come for me to start working as a teacher. This Monday, the class schedule was finally completed, and from now on I will be teaching 7 different classes from Senior 1 to Senior 4, equivalent to grades 7 to 10, in a total of 13 teaching hours a week in physical education. Each class lasts 40 minutes, and there is an alternating focus on theory and practical sessions. When I started on Tuesday, I was of course a bit nervous, but ultimately, it doesn't differ much from teaching in Germany. Of course, the classrooms are not as well equipped, some classes have up to 50 students, and many of them speak limited English, but it feels hardly different from just a few months ago when I was a student. Overall, the lessons I've had so far have been quite easy for me – fortunately, physical education is also seen as a minor subject here, so neither the students nor my supervisors take the material and my implementation very seriously. In addition, I will also be involved in soccer training, event planning, German courses for other volunteers (which are indeed rather challenging to plan and execute), and social media management on the weekends.

Otherwise, I have been searching for beautiful green spaces this week because I don't know exactly what I expected, but there are actually only 2 actual parks in the entire city. In the poorer neighborhoods (where I live), there are basically hardly any green spaces. However, with a little research and travel, I managed to find a few nice spots in nature.
