Today is our last full day in Chile. We are certainly looking forward to not having to live out of a backpack anymore. However, we have grown to love Chile so much and we are sure that we will come back soon.
After a light breakfast, we made our way to the neighboring Parque Metropolitano, an 880 m high mountain in the middle of the city. At the top is the San Cristobal. We go up the mountain with the Funicular (cable car). Then we ride the Teleférico, a cabin cable car, over almost the entire park. Today you can see how the Chileans spend their Sunday in Santiago. With the children on the hill for a picnic or visiting the restaurants or kiosks. Everything is relaxed and calm.
We make the way back on foot. The park suffers from prolonged drought and nothing looks really fresh. But you have a magnificent view of the city. Especially the new modern part. Santiago is located at the foot of the Andes. However, there is always a haze over the city and the mountains in the background can only be seen in outline.
Life in Bellavista is a bit quieter in the evening and some restaurants and bars are already closed. We will spend the last evening in a restaurant and later on the rooftop terrace of our Airbnb accommodation. The flight to Barcelona leaves tomorrow at 22:00 local time.
