The Arrival

So many came by personally on 05.01. or sent WhatsApp and emails to say goodbye, to give us contact addresses in our destination countries, and to assure us that everything is well taken care of during our absence. So, we could start our adventure around 17.00 with a calm mind but still very excited. Tamara, our loyal soul, brought us to the train station where Petra and Birgit were already waiting to wave goodbye for the last time.

But all the good wishes could not prevent the German Railways from showing once again what it can (not) do. The journey ended at Siegburg... a stranded train on the tracks prevented us from continuing - our time buffer was melting away and our already tense nerves were further strained until we could finally continue after a little less than an hour. No one needs that!

Checking in at Frankfurt also had its challenges due to our return flight dates, but the dedicated Lufthansa employee cleared them away after a few anxious minutes and several phone calls.

Once we settled into our seats on the plane, our pulse slowly normalized, and even the slightly bumpy Atlantic crossing couldn't really affect us anymore.
