In addition to the steep and rugged hiking and climbing passages, the weather conditions are also a challenge. The nights are often restless due to the winds that move the tents noisily. Restful sleep is out of the question on such nights. From Vizzavona, the 'GR20 Sud' begins. Although the trail does not climb as high as at the beginning, it remains demanding and challenging. Now, storms in the early morning hiking hours also cause difficulties. On a ridge hike, we can only stay on our feet with difficulty and with the help of our hiking poles.
But the weather also shows its better side: In lower elevations, on hot days, bathing pools invite us to cool off. The water is fresh and clear.
The GR20 finally ends after 180 kilometers in Conca in the southeast of the island. After a short stopover in Porto Vecchio, I fly back from Bastia to Nice by plane.
