Finally arrived - after a very long and exhausting 17-hour flight including a layover in Bangkok and a time difference of 7 hours, we reached our first destination. Welcome to Bali!

At Denpasar airport, the capital of Bali, our driver Putu was already waiting for us with a sign. He took us to our first accommodation, the Serenity Eco Guesthouse in Canggu, which is popular among yogis. You can participate in various yoga classes here all day long. However, the entire guesthouse is also a smoke and alcohol-free zone and there is only vegan, sugar-free, and gluten-free food available there.

Our home for the next two nights is the Tarzan Room, a double bed room on the second floor, which can be reached via a small staircase from the courtyard. The walls are not closed, but only covered with bamboo rods and blinds - similar to a treehouse. Let's see how well we survive the humid nights without air conditioning and only a small fan.

As a preventive measure, we thought a previous cool down wouldn't hurt. So after a little exploration of the surrounding area, we went to the sea. During our first attempt to cool off in the cold water, we immediately realized how wild the waves are there. That also explains why Canggu is one of the most popular corners of Bali when it comes to surf spots.

Otherwise, you can immediately sense how trendy this part of Indonesia is right now. Construction is taking place on every corner, new cafes and trendy restaurants open daily. Almost a little too much for us backpacking newbies :-)
