From Puerto Princesa we flew with Cebu Pacific to the second largest city in the Philippines, Cebu City, on the island of Cebu. From there, the plan was to explore the island with Oslob and the whale 🐋 sharks 🦈 and the beautiful white beaches and the neighboring island, Bohol. The plan almost literally fell through... Apparently a lunchtime snack in the hotel (for once we didn't eat on the street, but in the 4-star hotel) didn't agree with us at all and we were completely "out of action" for almost 2 days. So the only time left was to explore the city of Cebu.
The Philippines is Catholic. The first missionaries came from Spain and built the first church in the Philippines in 1565, the Basilica Minore del Santo Nino. The first European visitor was Magelan, who is said to have been the first to erect a cross, and a small monument was erected in his honor, the Magelan Cross. That's it for sights...
The people in Cebu live in very simple, if not poor, conditions, which we had not expected to be so pronounced. I now know where the term corrugated iron hut comes from. The national dish is Lechon, a grilled suckling pig, usually in a roll filled with herbs and lemongrass. Otherwise there is rice with chicken adobo or tapsilog. The next day we went on to Boracay
