Meet the Moped at Kampot

Yayınlanan: 03.11.2023

The first 221km on our 125cc machine are behind us. After we had worked our way out of the jungle-like streets of Phnom Penh, we headed south to Takeo with little traffic and on the best roads.

Drive through rice fields

On the way we stopped at the Phnom Tamoa Wildlife Sanctuary, where wild animals such as sun and moon bears, various species of macaques, wild cats etc. that can no longer live in the wild (because they are injured, their habitat has been permanently destroyed or the animals are aggressive towards people) have found a home. From an animal welfare perspective, the conditions there are certainly not optimal there either, especially when it comes to the run. The animals there don't have to suffer under any circumstances and they are well protected from poachers.

Then we continued to Phnom Chisor, an old Buddhist temple on a hill in the otherwise flat plain and with it a great view. We arrived in Takeo just in time for sunset. After dinner on the waterfront, the rainy season surprised us again on the way home and we had to take refuge under a parasol for 20 minutes.

Cargo motorcycle

The next day we drove on to Kampot with just one stopover, where we will spend the next few days. The Kampong Trach water cave was somewhat on our way, where we hoped to refresh ourselves. As it turned out, we really needed them. As soon as Kathleen took the wheel of the moped, the road turned into a red gravel road and after almost 50km we took on the color.

Kathleen's slopes

When we arrived in Kampot, we were quite happy to get off the moped. There were no dangerous situations in the flowing traffic because everyone drove very carefully and calmly, but we still have to get used to long stretches on our little Honda.
