Beruwela - Negombo - home

Last day in Sri Lanka

In the morning, we woke up early to have another swim in the sea before breakfast. After breakfast, we quickly headed towards Negombo. Since the most direct route followed the coast, we had to drive through the entire capital city of Colombo once again. Of course, the streets were busy, but after spending a long time on the road, we felt much more confident than on the first day and drove more boldly: with honking, we squeezed into every inch of space between vehicles.

In the afternoon at 3 pm, we returned our Tuk-Tuk. We had managed to travel across Sri Lanka for 18 days without a single scratch! After returning the Tuk-Tuk, we were allowed to leave our backpacks on-site for a small fee and visit the beach in Negombo one last time (though without swimming, as the water in Negombo is not as beautiful as in our previous stops) and have one last Sri Lankan meal. So good! So healthy! So fresh! I will miss it...

Our flight was not until 2:30 am. So we stayed in a pub for a long time to pass the time. When Tommy ordered another beer at 11 pm, it came with a small bowl of homemade chips, which I quickly grabbed. And because they were so delicious, I ordered another one. But unfortunately, I didn't realize that chips are not the same as fries. I wondered why it was taking so long. Then, of course, a large portion of french fries arrived. Instead of getting upset, I was happy about how my request was fulfilled even though the kitchen was already closed. And they were good. The two of us finished the portion and then took a tuk-tuk (taxi) to the airport.

Bye bye Sri Lanka, it was very beautiful!

We highly recommend this trip to anyone who enjoys good food, friendly people, wonderful nature, culture & history, and last but not least, can handle the traffic on the roads.
