Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu 🇵🇪🧭🏞️🏃‍♀️

Yayınlanan: 03.10.2019

We were picked up around 5 am and as mentioned before, we had a few drinks the night before and only 3 hours of sleep :D accordingly, I was pretty tired and hungover. But if you can drink, you can also hike or something! In the bus, I was able to sleep a little and then ate the breakfast package from the hostel. After I think 3 hours of driving, we arrived at the starting point and after everyone went to the bathroom, we started hiking.

The path was not so exhausting and we hiked to Humantay Lake, which glittered green and blue in the sun :D

The next day, we hiked 22 km and crossed the 4,600 m high Salkantay Pass. At the highest point, our guide performed a ritual with us where we thanked Pachamama (Mother Nature) for everything. Towards the end, the path was quite long and we were all relieved when we finally arrived.

The third day was easy compared to the second. We only hiked 11 km and then went to the Hotsprings in Santa Teresa to relax :)

On the fourth day, we hiked along the train tracks to the city of Aguas Calientes, the city right next to Machu Picchu, where we met at Hotel Kiki :) before that, we went ziplining or whatever it's called, where we flew at full speed over 7 cable cars across the valley.

The last day was finally the day we had been waiting for! We will see Machu Picchu, one of the seven wonders of the world! We woke up at 4 am and were greeted with rain, which unfortunately didn't stop :D we took the bus up to the entrance and got a stamp for our passport right away :) after the entrance, we went straight to the viewpoint... The spot where all the pictures for Machu Picchu are taken.. So the classic picture. And for us, the city was mostly covered in clouds and rain :D I almost cried. Well, you can't have everything in life, and at least I was there. That comforted me :) our guide then gave us a tour of Machu Picchu and afterwards we went back down and waited for our train to Ollantaytambo in a cafe.

The journey was quite nice and later we were driven to Cusco by a car, where we spent the evening comfortably in the hostel.

And that was our adventure at Machu Picchu :D

Two days later, I went alone with Kiki to the Rainbow Mountain and the Red Valley, as Laura wasn't feeling well.

And now we're already in Arequipa after a 10-hour night bus and have done our first trek in the Colca Valley, which I will tell you more about in the next entry :)

Hasta pronto,

Chrissie :)
