Bribie Island

Yayınlanan: 28.07.2017

With Jayell's mother Lulu's address in our pocket, we set off! Jayell is 26, her husband Kelvin is 35. She grew up here, Kelvin in New Zealand - a really nice couple - they now live in Perth and it's great that they have kept in touch with us since the sailing tour. We have also been invited to visit Perth - we are saving that for our next trip! 😉

So we set off and I'm really looking forward to the drive! It's really fun now. We always ask ourselves so many questions during the drives, about ugly school uniforms and other things that catch our attention here!

Bribie is accessible via a bridge. Google Maps is supposed to take us to the address we found on the internet. Lulu actually has a costume and party shop! 😳😳

A costume and party shop on an island with 16,000 inhabitants - we already find that funny! Google Maps takes us to a golf course and a closed road - Recreation, we can't go any further! So we choose the alternative route... which is strangely in the opposite direction! So we gradually explore the island and end up in the next dead end - a sandy road - impassable.

Now you can really see how German we are - we actually got Lulu's phone number, but I'm afraid to call her... it's already difficult for me to get involved with someone I don't know - even though I know Australians are like that and I think it's great. Funny enough, Mika thinks it's completely normal to visit Jayell's mother, even though we don't know her and - to be honest, we hardly know Jayell either - children are still innocent in that regard... 😃

We get the correct address from Jayell, who laughs that we haven't dared to call her mother yet.

What can I say, Lulu has the craziest store I have ever seen. I liked it immediately and then became a bit braver... with a store like that, the owner must be nice. The store is closed - I send Lulu a message that we are there and we go to the best fish & chips stand ever! Then to a beautiful beach! That's exactly what I wished for our last days here in Australia!!! Driving, exploring the area, chatting, eating, the beach!!!!

When Lulu contacts us, we drive back to her shop and meet a really nice and open-minded woman who was already well-informed by her daughter!! She shows us her store, we talk about this and that, and of course we also take photos for Jayell! It was really wonderful and another experience!!

On the way back, we want to stop at another beach for a sunset! There's a little misunderstanding between Daniel and me, so we miss the only real beach on the way to Brisbane. There aren't many here unfortunately. So I take the next exit where there's something about a beach... and I'm totally disappointed - that's not a real beach... I can really be dumb when something doesn't go as I imagined. I really wanted to have a last sunset at the beach - sitting in the sand... 😏!

We discover a boardwalk through the mangroves - really cool! I think the kids realized it's better not to contradict me, so we walked it in the setting sun and it was really beautiful!!!! I'm reconciled again! Sitting in the sand - anyone can do that!!!

Back in the dark through Brisbane with the skyline - very beautiful! We will definitely spend our last evening in the city - at a pub with beer and football - I'm looking forward to it!
