Now that it's a bit warmer, I'm camping and am outside and surrounded by greenery day and night. The campsites are all right on the Loire. I haven't heard any motorway noise or industrial noise for a few days. It's just totally quiet, apart from the birdsong. I'm currently in front of the walls of Orléans and can already see the towers of the cathedral. Like Orléans, Charité-sûr-Loire and Nevers were also places of pilgrimage. I'm actually very happy that I'm covering the distance of 4 days of pilgrimage in 1 day.
But the other villages on the Loire, such as Gien or Sully-sûr-Loire, are also really pretty. I really like the natural architecture and the natural gardens without gravel, granite slabs, concrete paving or corteen steel. Just flowers, bushes, trees and meadows, the occasional gravel path or natural stone wall. What I haven't seen yet, however, are solar panels, wind turbines or heat pumps. But I have seen 2 nuclear power stations in the middle of beautiful nature.
Since I started camping, my daily budget has dropped dramatically, as a night at a campsite costs €8-11. The warm shower and the cold sleeping space in my own 2kg mobile home are free of charge ;-). Unlike a hotel or B&B, there is also a washing machine, which I used today.
