The West End in London is probably the best place to see musicals, along with Broadway. So the right place for me. Currently, there are probably up to 40 shows and musicals running simultaneously, just in the West End alone. You probably can't even count all the musicals from all of London, as many small theaters also have small musical productions. You can easily lose track.
Last weekend, West End LIVE took place. A great opportunity to get a glimpse into many different musicals and shows. And completely free of charge. But that also meant that it was extremely crowded.
It started at 11 a.m. Admission was at 10 a.m. So we were already there at nine, and the line was already very long, stretching around several blocks.
On Saturday, we were able to see excerpts from a total of 29 musicals and shows. On Sunday, there were maybe around 20, as some were also presented twice. I've brought you a small excerpt:
'Treason' is a relatively new musical and is often referred to as 'the British Hamilton'. It tells the story of the Gunpowder Plot. This year, it is running in a concert-like form, but unfortunately only for two days.
'Unfortunate' tells the story of Ursula, the evil witch from The Little Mermaid. At the same time, the musical is a parody of the story of The Little Mermaid.
'Come from away' is a musical that I will finally be able to see live in a week. Originally from Canada, it tells the true story of plane passengers who had to land in a Canadian city due to the events of September 11.
'SIX' is a musical that I will also see soon, but it is already one of my absolute favorite musicals. I feel like I already know the soundtrack by heart. This musical is about the six wives of Henry VIII.
West End LIVE was an incredible experience. It was so much fun to discover new songs and be able to sing along to the ones I already knew. I will definitely be there again next year.
With this series of posts, I want to take you on a journey. With me, to the most diverse musicals and theaters.
