Hello dear ones,
Before too much accumulates, I'm writing to you again from my phone. Unfortunately, the library here doesn't have any computers that one is allowed to use. Well, at least not when there is no library member around. Very annoying. But well. Yesterday, I drove through the beautiful Arthur's Pass. With radiant and warm weather, I left Christchurch and headed towards the West Coast. I had actually planned to do that last week, but a snowstorm unfortunately ruined my plans. Well, yesterday was finally the day when I set off again.
First, I stopped at Castle Hill. There you can admire and explore impressive limestone rocks. Some people can even climb on some of them, well, with the right equipment, some people have also climbed the largest rocks. But anyway, I had my lunch break there and took a walk, of course I also climbed one of the easier rocks, I had to represent Jannick properly.
Shortly afterwards, it started raining and when I arrived at the place Arthur's Pass and my accommodation, it was pouring rain. After unloading the car, I still went on an exploration tour. I could learn a lot about the place at the information center. Then I walked to two waterfalls which were also impressive to look at in the rain. After that, I was pretty wet and went back to my hostel. There I booked the accommodations for the next few days and otherwise had a cozy evening.
That's it from the first part of Arthur's Pass. Today (14.09) I drove the remaining part. When I woke up this morning, the pass showed itself in all its splendor in bright sunshine. So I walked to the larger of the two waterfalls once again. Then I passed two viewpoints where I could admire some Keas again. Keas are the alpine parrots that only exist in the New Zealand Alps, as far as I know. Unfortunately, as soon as I was on the western side of the Alps, it started raining, so I drove the rest of the way relatively quickly. In the afternoon around 1 pm, I arrived in Hokitika. My next stop, which I will report on in the next post. Now it's time for the photos I took with my phone, and when I come across a better-equipped library again, I will upload the photos from my camera.
See you soon,
Your Jessi
