22.03.2023 from Hat Head NP to Dorrigo

It rained heavily during the night, then the weather calmed down. It's moist and not too cold early in the morning. I'm briefly startled in the campground toilet when I see a fat spider looking at me, I throw some balls of toilet paper at it and it moves away.

We take another look at the sea, the waves are strong, swimming here is not fun, so we drive to the lighthouse and the old prison. It's interesting that during and after World War I, 500 German men from German and Australian colonies in Asia were interned here, intellectuals and alleged spies. We drive inland again, not far, but the Great Dividing Range is so close that unexpectedly, we end up in the mountains and drive up the steep cliff edge. They're promoting a waterfall here, and today we made a mistake with our campground booking. Our site is still 250 km inland, we cancel the booking, we won't get the money back, and 6 AUD is just the booking fee anyway.

We visit the town of Dorrigo, spend some time in the public library because of the internet, and then visit the waterfall. It's not spectacular but still impressive.

The nearby national park advertises a skywalk, only 70 m long, but there's nothing to see today, fog and thick clouds obstruct the view.

Today we can light a fire at the campground, maybe we'll finally get rid of those fire-resistant eucalyptus logs that were sold to us as firewood. A German pine log is a whole different story. In the evening, we chat with a young Colombian who wants to start a new life in Australia.
