Day 11: Canyonland National Park Isle of the Sky

Nai-publish: 02.07.2024

We sleep poorly, it is too warm, the wind moves the car strongly, and the ravens keep screaming from half past 6. So our day starts early. We hurry, stop briefly at the visitor center because the kids will become Junior Park Rangers. Then we leave this part of the park. The drive takes an hour to the highway, then half an hour north, and then another hour into the park. The national park can be accessed from three sides. From this side, we can only access 2 sides. Now we are on the high plateau. The landscape is green, and the huge canyon landscape is visible on the slope. Impressive this vastness. Our first hike is to an arch. The trail is short, and the natural bridge is very beautiful to see. It is right above the abyss. We take pictures diligently and walk back. After lunch, we drive to the edge of the cliffs and park our car there. We choose a trail that leads along the edge of the abyss. We see the lower part of the national park with its needles and the many canyons with the two rivers. Today the hike is not so exhausting. We are better prepared, René carries more water. But it is not so hot, and the wind blows. Our goal of the hike is the top of the formations. It is a very nice hike of a total of 2.4 kilometers. Afterwards, we leave the park. Now it's time to do laundry again. Due to all the dust, we feel the need to put on new clothes every day. Then we reach Ken's Lake around 6 p.m. We prepare dinner and then take a swim in Ken's Lake. Unfortunately, the lake is a bit too cold for me. But the kids enjoy it.
