Agnes Water, 1770, Rockhampton

Nai-publish: 20.05.2017

The detour to Agnes Water and 1770 is one of the top highlights on the route from Brisbane to Cairns. However, it is often overlooked by many travelers due to its remoteness. But not by us! ๐Ÿ˜‹ Agnes Water is a small town with lots of nature and a 5 km long beach. The long stretch of beach is perfect for surfing and is also the northernmost surf beach on the East Coast, so it's our last chance to get on a surfboard for now. So, we did it ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ’ช. In Agnes Water, we took a 3-hour surf course. It was so much fun. Although we were a large group, everyone managed to get on the board at least once ๐Ÿ˜„. After the dry exercises on the beach, the surf instructors gave us a push in the water and commanded us to stand on the board. It's a quick move from lying down to standing up, and it's definitely not easy. But once you've done it, it's an incredible feeling to feel the waves under the board and be 'washed up' on the beach.

We stayed in Agnes Water for quite a while (6 nights), most of the time on a campsite without electricity and any luxury, but with an open shower without hot water ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ˜…. That's why we moved to a better campsite for 1 night to charge our devices and treat ourselves to a hot shower. There we met Austrians and played all sorts of games with them for a long time ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. In the process, we finished the rest of the goon that had been sitting in our car for weeks ๐Ÿ˜‚. A 50-year-old Australian woman joined us and told us about her interesting travel experiences. She used to live in India and told us about life there. The story of when she fell asleep on a train and then had 6 men sitting around her and staring at her was intense. Normally, no woman would come out unscathed in such a situation, but she stared at each one of the men, so that one after the other looked away and left ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. Really intense what could have happened there, but she said the men somehow couldn't handle it...

We won't be able to report on every acquaintance we make here, as we make new ones every day and it's very easy to strike up a conversation here. Australians are really easy-going, very helpful, and incredibly friendly. It's also easy to exchange ideas with other backpackers because we're all in the same boat ๐Ÿ˜….

In 1770, such an awesome name for a town ๐Ÿ˜„, there is a pink amphibious vehicle, a kind of boat with wheels, which is 'at home' both on land and on water. We wanted to do such a tour and booked a sunset tour. We cruised through the beaches of the adjacent national park and enjoyed the sunset. Someone was so dumb and didn't hold on to their cap properly, so it flew away and said bye ๐Ÿ‘‹! Goodbye to the beautiful pink NY cap ๐Ÿ˜ญ. Luckily, the ranger/driver had so much pity and stopped, with a little more luck the cap didn't land in the ocean but the wind blew it onto the beach ๐Ÿ˜„. So we took the opportunity to take some par shoots ๐Ÿ“ท.

After the nights in Agnes Water, we continued to Australia's Beef Capital, Rockhampton. We drove past thousands of cattle before reaching the city, which is probably why it's called the Beef Capital ๐Ÿ™ˆ. It is said to have the best steak here, but we can't judge that yet, we want to share this experience with Didi, Nette, and Lucy in August ๐Ÿ˜‰. The city is relatively large, but we didn't do much here, it was just a stopover after 2 relaxing nights at a really nice place with about 1000 cockatoos, which scream you out of bed early in the morning and start squawking again promptly at 5 o'clock in the evening. Really crazy! Such squawking ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Sorry that we are a bit behind with the last two posts. The others will be more up to date now ๐Ÿ˜‰. We've been in Airlie Beach for a while now and we're really enjoying our vacation here ๐Ÿ˜Š. But more on that in the next post ๐Ÿ™ƒ. Love you โ™ฅ๏ธ.
