16/12/2019 - New York - from Union Square to Times Square

Nai-publish: 14.08.2020

Yesterday we finally got a visit. Lukas, Ben's cousin, is joining us for the second time on a part of our journey and his parents, Birgit and Dino, are also here this time. We are very happy about the visit and the prospect of spending Christmas together. But before that, there is still a lot to discover in New York.

In line with the season, we started our day with a visit to a Christmas market. In the center of the lively Union Square neighborhood dis, the park of the same name, where many small cabins with delicious treats and Christmas decorations have been set up. Wrapped up in the scent of Christmas, a few small white flakes even fell from the sky. Our next stop was the Flatiron Building. Translated, it means clothes iron building and it does look like one when viewed from above. However, when photographed at the right angle, it looks as if it is only a few meters wide. Erected in 1902, the 91-meter-high and very distinctive building is one of the oldest skyscrapers in New York. We continued walking up Fifth Avenue until we stood in front of the entrance of the Empire State Building. Today, we only visited the entrance hall for now and admired many different miniatures of the famous landmark. We then went through the hustle and bustle of Grand Central Terminal to the brightly lit and very crowded Times Square.
