Çap edildi: 05.03.2020

Jimmy Armers Beach, Kaikoura

Today, we fulfill our wish to see whales from the air in Kaikoura, as we have booked a 40-minute scenic flight with 'Whale Watching'. We will depart at 10:15 am in a small propeller plane, as two sperm whales have already been spotted and are expected to surface in a few minutes. After a short time, we can actually see a sperm whale swimming at the surface of the sea. Approximately every 10 seconds, we can see a spout of water rising from its blowhole into the air. After circling the whale multiple times, we witness its spectacular dive, with its giant tail fluke sticking out of the water. Shortly after, we are informed that a blue whale has been sighted near our position, so we change our flight course. Unfortunately, we arrive too late and the whale has already dived. Instead, we see a second sperm whale and safely land back on the ground some time later. Continuing our search for a suitable surfing spot, we drive further north to Kekerengu. However, the beaches are not suitable for surfing, so we just refresh ourselves in the sea once, as it is very hot today. Afterwards, we drive to Lake Elterwater near Blenheim, where we spend the rest of the afternoon leisurely in the van and in the sun.
