On the road in Beberibe

This year Brazil was finally at the top of our vacation list. The ideal time for us - March.

From Frankfurt, we reached Fortaleza after 10 hours of flying and first set our clocks back 4 hours.

After a short one-hour drive, we reached Beberibe, about 70 km away. This tour costs about 200 Real, which is currently 50 Euro.

In Beberibe/Morro Branco, we stayed at the Pousada Vale do Sol.

This guesthouse offers 10 apartments that are decorated in a typical Brazilian style. There is also a pool, which we could use almost exclusively during our stay.

The large terraces with hammocks, which were changed every third day, are also beautiful. We paid 160 Real per apartment for one night including breakfast.

In addition to bread and cakes, breakfast consisted of sausages, cheese, and jam. Upon request, we could have boiled, fried, or scrambled eggs every day.

Knowledge of the Portuguese language is recommended for the trip, as few residents speak English.

The Morro Branco Beach is about 1.5 km away from the guesthouse.

For a few Real, you can get there by taxi. Just stand by the roadside and raise your arm. Car or motorcycle taxis will gladly stop. The locals are very friendly and helpful. However, all buildings are surrounded by walls and power lines.

There are free sunbeds and chairs under large umbrellas on the beach. If you like, you can order food or drinks like Agua de Coco. Agua de Coco costs 5 Real on the beach.

The sea is warm and the waves are strong at high tide. Only a few dare to go far into the sea - but it's simply wonderful.

There are colorful rocks right on the beach - the Falesias of Beberibe.

The Falesias (cliffs or cliffs) are a naturally eroded and incredibly beautiful labyrinth of constantly changing corridors, canyons, and caves.

Tours with a buggy are a lot of fun. The bugheiros drive the guests along the beach to freshwater lagoons and natural watercourses.

You should definitely remember to bring proper sun protection and a well-fitting hat. The sun and the wind are relentless, and a good sunscreen can help prevent sunburn on the forehead, shoulders, and chest.

The tours are not cheap - about 60 Euro per buggy.

There is a lot to see on the beach. Especially when the fishermen return from their fishing trips, it gets exciting. Within a few minutes, many helpers manage to pull the boats ashore in a traditional way. As a thank-you, each helper receives fresh fish.

With an average daily temperature of 32°C, we carefully considered which excursion to take. But a trip in an air-conditioned car to Fortim

and to Canoa

must not be missed.

The markets in Cascavel and Beberibe are also worth a visit:

A freshly squeezed sugarcane juice with a little lemon is a must-have.

The engenhos are also worth seeing, even if they are now operated specifically for tourists:

Here we could see how a small sweet treat is made from sugarcane.

Speaking of sweet treats - at our Pousada, we had Banana Caramelizada every morning. We cooked it together with the housekeeper of our Pousada. Give it a try.

Recipe:

Caramelize 1 cup of sugar

Add 4 sliced bananas

and some hot water

let it boil and season with cinnamon.

Let cool down

The nights in Beberibe are hot - at 27°C, an air conditioner and/or a fan are absolutely useful.

Entertainment is provided in Beberibe on weekends. With hot rhythms and delicious Caipirinha (4 Real/glass) or Cerveja, you can spend a few lovely hours outdoors.

Life takes place outdoors in general. The houses themselves have single walls with high ceilings to bring in some coolness.

If you have visitors, they clap three times and are then allowed in.

The food in Beberibe and the surrounding area is cheap, and the tips from locals are worth their weight in gold. Whether it's grilled chicken, fish in delicious sauces, or skewers - everything tasted great, was plentiful, and inexpensive.

The crabs, however, are more for snacking than for getting full.

As mentioned before, it's consistently warm in Beberibe. There are no seasons there. We were there during the rainy season, and indeed, it rained briefly in the mornings a few times. Unbelievable - a warm rain while swimming laps in the pool at 7 o'clock in the morning.

Flip Flops

Even in the evening, a T-shirt or a lightweight blouse and linen pants are enough.

You can safely leave warm clothes at home.

You should be careful with cold drinks, maybe let them sit for a few minutes after taking them out of the refrigerator before drinking - your stomach will thank you.

Medicines for minor ailments, sunscreen, and other everyday items are available in Beberibe.

Shopping:

There is always room for a few souvenirs - personalized Havaianas for the whole family, a beach dress, and a hammock had to be packed.

A small souvenir with colored sand could not be missing.
