Dunedin is also known as the 'Edinburgh of New Zealand' due to its architecture.
I didn't expect much from the city and included it in my itinerary because it is a good base for visiting the Moeraki Boulders.
But the highlight for me was still the city of Dunedin. I liked it so much that I would have liked to stay longer. The city is quite young due to its large university, and there is a lot of street art. Dunedin is authentic and not as touristy as some other places in the country. There are many parks and a beautiful botanical garden.
A little outside the city center is the (now second) steepest street in the world. Baldwin Street, the street is only a few hundred meters long and has a gradient of about 35% - and the best way to conquer it is on foot.
About an hour away from Dunedin are the Moeraki Boulders - large spherical stones that lie on the beach.
