2021 - July - Colmar

Çap edildi: 11.07.2021

If you visit Colmar these days, it will seem to you as if Covid plays no role at all. The small French town in Alsace is full of tourists. They are pushing through the narrow alleyways in large numbers. It is difficult to find a place in a restaurant.

Our little stopover, coming from Marseille on our way home, was still a good decision. Sniffing French air one more time and expanding our horizons at the same time.

Even those who look down on the ground in Colmar will learn something new. Because everywhere on the street you can find small replicas of the Statue of Liberty in New York! They commemorate the city's most famous son, Auguste Bartholdi, who created this monument. By the way, a (significantly smaller) replica of the statue has been located on the outskirts of Colmar for several years. However, we did not visit this one.

Instead, we strolled a bit through the city. The old town is really worth seeing and world-famous. There is even a replica of it in Malaysia (Bukit Tinggi Resort Colmartropicale Bentong)! I wonder if you will also encounter so many Germans there? Colmar is close to the German border and is therefore highly appreciated by my compatriots.

Very popular with all tourists, but still worth it, is a boat trip through the canals of the Lauch River. The ride is leisurely and lasts about 20-30 minutes (cost: 6 euros). The boat guides are also happy to explain a thing or two, and so we also learned that there is an American bridge in Colmar. It was built by the US military during World War II and is still standing as it did over 70 years ago.

But of course, most tourists only have eyes for the pretty little houses on either side of the riverbank. They are the most popular photo motifs in the city.

Unfortunately, we did not have optimal weather for photos during our quick visit. Thick clouds and rain were our companions along with some sun. But I was able to take a few snapshots.
