Since the following days were relatively uneventful, this entry covers multiple days.
The day after the Tongariro hike can be summed up quickly: SORE MUSCLES. Sore muscles as we leave the campsite in the morning and drive to Auckland. Sore muscles as we drop off the car in the afternoon. Sore muscles as we arrive at our hostel in Auckland after a bus ride. The aftermath of the hike is also the reason why we spend the rest of the day on the couch at the hostel.
A little more rested, we set out the next day to explore Auckland. We stroll through the shopping streets of the city center. An insider tip from home leads us to the trendy neighborhood of the city, where we treat ourselves to a hearty lunch as well as ice cream (Rebecca: Banoffee and Snickers Felix: Mango and Coffee). After 3 ½ weeks of supermarket food, we deserve it. Especially the ice cream turns out to be an absolute highlight. We make our way to the port of the "City of Sails" and take the next bus to our hostel, where we pack our clothes. Because tomorrow we're off to Sydney.
Since we still have some time until our departure the next morning, we "climb" Mount Eden, as the highest elevation in the city of Auckland is only a few minutes away from our accommodation. Then we head to the airport with our bags packed.
It's unbelievable that our time in New Zealand is already over. Short conclusion: Beautiful and diverse country where you waste your time in the cities. The landscape is just too beautiful!
From Auckland we fly to Sydney, where we have booked an Airbnb accommodation for 4 nights. After 45 minutes by train and on foot, we meet our hosts Ron and Kathryn (both super relaxed and nice).
