29th November - Nambung National Park

Çap edildi: 29.11.2018

This morning we were up a bit early due to the time difference from Melbourne to Perth. We will manage just fine. But it had the advantage that we had breakfast early and could start driving right away. Nambung National Park is located about 150 km north of Perth. After crossing the city limits, the road was clear. Hardly any cars were on the way in a rather barren landscape. But that was soon to change. Suddenly, white mountains appeared. Snow? In this heat? Cannot be. And it wasn't, these were huge snow-white sand dunes. The wind blew so strong that the air above it looked very hazy. But it was swirling white sand. As white as we have never seen before (photo).

At a viewpoint, we made a quick stop. And there I was really startled. Right next to me on the path I spotted a snake. Or so I thought at first. As if stung by a tarantula, I ran back a few meters and then slowly approached again with Stephanie. That's when I saw the animal first and then its legs. So it was not a snake, but a lizard. But I am not familiar with that either. Stephanie took a photo of it with the tablet, and I took one with my camera. So unfortunately, this photo is not very clear either. At the end of the trail, there was a sign with a picture and text, from which we learned that it is a very rare species of lizard that seems to occur only there. It was a skink.

We continued to our actual destination, Nambung National Park. We both took a large number of photos there. A very impressive desert that we could walk through. Incredible colors; the photos are not edited. Because the wind was so strong, we both got intensively sandblasted as well. We don't need that every day!
