Day 19 - Bimbi's Cuddle

Skilfully, we maneuver Yoshi out of the narrow campsite and continue driving along the Great Ocean Road. As so often, the sky is covered with a thick layer of clouds. The route takes us a little inland and into the next national park. In the middle of the forest, we stop for a 'Rainforest Walk' of just under a kilometer. We eagerly keep an eye out for animals, especially koalas. Unfortunately, we don't see any, but we are impressed by the very tall trees (up to 100m) with their immense tree trunks.

After the short walk, we drive to Cape Otway. There, we visit the second oldest lighthouse in Australia and the telegraph center from around 1860 (connection between Melbourne and Tasmania). We also expand our knowledge of history. In World War II, the Germans & Japanese came with submarines, mine ships, and planes to the south coast of Australia.

Last night, we already booked a spot at the Bimbi Park Camping, which we finally drive to in the afternoon. During check-in, we manage to get two tickets for a freshly baked stone oven pizza for dinner. While searching for a spot, we see our first wild koala. With great joy, we venture out on foot to search for more. In total, we see 10 koalas, which are located on the trees in and around the campsite area. We can get a particularly close look at one koala. We name him Cuddle. Later, we even see one of them scurrying across the path in front of us in search of a new tree.

Well organized, we have our pizza created according to our preferences and baked in the wood-fired oven :) Furthermore, our overnight spot is right next to the open-air cinema theater of the campsite. Coincidentally, tonight is movie night. We have almost no choice but to watch the Disney movie 'Aristocats' with many kids in front of us. And just as the movie finishes, a strong wind starts. Our signal to call it a day for today.
