Merida - Capital of Yucatan

From the once probably most important city of Yucatan we continued to the most important city today. But before that, we passed through Izamal with its enchanting monastery. Just mentioned in passing, the first missionaries built the monastery right in the middle of an important religious Mayan site.

Our hotel in Merida had a wonderful courtyard pool, so we could relax in the afternoon. The city of Merida invites you to stroll through the streets, and every evening some streets were even converted into pedestrian zones. During our stay, there was the Festival of Lights. The locations here were spread throughout the city. The cathedral, for example, shone with thousands of flowers.
