Hoi An - our first Vietnamese old town

Çap edildi: 12.12.2018

After spending 24 hours on the train, we finally arrived in Hoi An after a short bus ride.

Hoi An has a beautifully maintained - and very touristy - old town in French colonial style with old wooden houses. As a symbol of the meeting of different cultures - Chinese, Japanese, French, Vietnamese - which is partly due to the fact that Hoi An, together with Da Nang, used to be an important port city, the facades were painted yellow. Hoi An is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and therefore they are still decorated in their original color. The Chinese once brought lanterns to the city, which became a characteristic feature.

This bridge connects the new district (left) with the old town (right).

The monkey is on one side of the bridge, meaning that construction began in the Year of the Monkey. On the other side you can find a dog, in this year the construction was completed.

In addition to the beautiful old houses, which we were allowed to visit, we could also visit Chinese temples.

Wishes are written on the yellow paper, then they are hung on the incense spirals and the spiral is lit. This burns for 2-3 months.

In the back area of the temple there is a garden with sculptures. The dragon stands for development.

The dragon is always depicted in color because, as Hy told us, it is something beautiful and powerful in their eyes.
The goat is the Chinese symbol for strength. The Vietnamese symbol for strength is the buffalo.

Hy took us to a tailor where Jakob had a suit and shirt tailored. Measurements were taken in the morning, the style and fabrics were chosen, the first fitting was in the evening, and by lunchtime the next day they were almost finished. Some minor adjustments still need to be made, then the suit will be sent out.
